JOSH PICKERING is fired-up for a glorious end to the season after watching his Aussie pals win the World Cup.
The flying star will feature in successive huge meetings live on BSN this weekend.
His Scunthorpe side take on Glasgow tomorrow night (Friday) in the first leg of their Cab Direct Championship play-off at the Eddie Wright Raceway.&nbsp;
Then he is the red-hot favourite to pick-up his second Championship Riders’ title at Owlerton on Saturday night.&nbsp;
Picko, 29, admits he’s been inspired by watching the green and gold take the World Cup in Warsaw.&nbsp;
He revealed: “I’m proud as punch to be an Aussie. I’m very happy for (Jason) Doyley and Max (Fricke) is one of my great mates.&nbsp;
“I’ve raced with Brady my whole life and Dougie’s recent form got him there and Rohan is also one of my best mates.&nbsp;
“As much as I’m happy for them, I also wish it could be me. I’m glad that they won.”
The Aussie is clearly enjoying his time at the Eddie Wright Raceway and has led the Scorpions to the play-offs to face Glasgow in a big first leg.&nbsp;
He said: “I really have enjoyed working with Rob, Gail and the rest of the team. They are a close knit group and Rob wants to win as much as I do.&nbsp;
“We have raised a few eyebrows. I always felt we could be fighting for a final position. That was always the goal.&nbsp;
“I’m pleased we are in a good position to give back to the people at Scunny. The job’s not done.”
Pickering could also become the first Scunthorpe star to win the second tier riders’ title in its 55-year history.&nbsp;
He added: “I am very good at Sheffield, I’ve proved that over the past few seasons. Anything can happen on the night.&nbsp;
“But you’ve got to be on it. It’s not going to be an easy meeting, it’s going to be quite the opposite.&nbsp;
“I’m confident that if the CLRC was hosted at any track in Britain, the form that I’m in, I could win it anywhere.&nbsp;
“I do have that extra edge riding at Sheffield. I’m going to use that to my advantage.&nbsp;
“But I’m going into it with a level head. The goal is no different than what it was in 2024 when I won it at Redcar. I feel I am a much better rider since then and much more consistent.”&nbsp;

Picko aims for glory in two huge meetings

DAN BEWLEY admitted it “stings a little bit” after returning to the track for the first time in three months.&nbsp;
The Cumbrian was back in action for Sparta Wroclaw at Leszno, 109 days since suffering a broken femur and compressed vertebrae in Slangerup.&nbsp;
Bewley, 27, scored paid 12 in a fine display as Wroclaw romped to a 55-35 Ekstraliga play-off semi-final win.
It was also announced on Monday morning that Bewley was returning to the SGP in Vojens on Saturday night.&nbsp;
He also passed the milestone of 1,000 points for Wroclaw and said: “Stings a little bit at the moment. Big heart and some balls is better than practice.&nbsp;
“It was a good day and it is good to be back. I had some fun. Won my first race so that’s nice.”
“I don’t know whether (coach) Pepe (Protasiewicz) was trusting me when I said ‘don’t worry about it I’ll practice next week and be good’.
“No stress it’s a good day and thanks to everybody at the club, all the fans and everybody who has supported me.”
Bewley was still clearly limping as the riders went over to their celebrating fans at the end of the meeting.&nbsp;
Brady Kurtz scored paid seven including an engine failure on the last corner when set for a 5-1.
Bewley refused to get carried away with their big win. He added: “It’s tough to say. Every time that’s in the play-offs is strong. Leszno have been good this year at home. We’re a good team, good performance today but we’ve got to keep going.”
There was a controversial moment in the meeting when Ben Cook and Artem Laguta collided, with both riders coming down.&nbsp;
Cook was excluded in the 50/50 incident. He said: “It was a tough decision. He knew I was there, he took the risk to go there.&nbsp;
“There was no malice in it, I didn’t take him out on purpose. To be honest I didn’t really see him there until the last second.&nbsp;
“We both collected each other. It’s the ref’s decision, that’s what he’s done.”
In the other semi-final, defending champions Torun produced a fine 48-42 win at Lublin.&nbsp;
The visitors started strongly to lead 17-7. Led by Bartosz Zmarzlik, Lublin fought back to lead 37-35.&nbsp;
However the hero was Torun’s Norick Blodorn with two crucial late wins, including one over Zmarzlik, on the way to paid 11.&nbsp;
Robert Lambert scored six for Torun while Emil Sayfutdinov picked up paid 12 with Mikkel Michelsen also on 12.
In the big re-match of Zmarzlik against Michelsen, after their angry clash at the World Cup, the Dane ended the night on a high with a Heat 15 win over the Pole to secure the away win.&nbsp;
On Friday night Charles Wright delivered an excellent paid 11 in Gorzow’s 47-43 victory over Zielona Gora.&nbsp;

Bewley returns to track and back for Danish GP

EVERY race of a thrilling finale to the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership will be live on BSN.
Speedway fans won’t miss a thing of the conclusion to the title race with Belle Vue, Leicester and two of Sheffield Ipswich and King’s Lynn going for glory.&nbsp;
There’s little doubt that the ATPI Aces are red-hot favourites to get their hands on the trophy for the third time in five years having won in 2022 and 2024.&nbsp;
Mark Lemon’s side have been comfortably top of the league for most of the campaign and with new World Cup champions Brady Kurtz and Jason Doyle leading the charge, they will take some stopping.&nbsp;
Lemon admitted: “We are in a really healthy position but it’s not the time to rest on our laurels.&nbsp;
“There is still a lot of work to be done. Nothing is ever given to you.&nbsp;
“We know that play-offs can throw a curveball. This year reminds me of 2023 and look how that ended up. We lost Charles Wright on the eve of the play-offs and it cost us big time.&nbsp;
“We are mindful of that. We haven’t had the best of luck with injuries leading up to play-offs, that’s for sure. When you are a manager, you don’t rest easy.&nbsp;
“The riders are busy, they get tired after a long season and they’ve got to perform at the pointy end. You are asking a lot of your riders.”
It’s certainly not a shoe-in for the Manchester side. Leicester are certainly capable of delivering over two legs. That’s been proven by successive Premiership KO Cup wins.
Another World Cup winner Ryan Douglas, perhaps Australia’s biggest hero in Warsaw, has shown he is a solid No.1.
Sheffield have almost confirmed their place in the top four and will take on Northampton on September 10 live on BSN, the meeting that could seal their spot.&nbsp;
Even with the loss of Jack Holder, the Tigers have been excellent with Josh Pickering as such a terrific talisman. Chris Holder is still a strong performer but emerging talents Leon Flint, Anders Rowe and Luke Killeen plus on-form Jye Etheridge make the South Yorkshire outfit a dangerous proposition.&nbsp;
East Anglian rivals Ipswich and King’s Lynn are still slugging it out for the final spot. Both have the ability to upset the odds if they make the top four.

ROWE Motor Oil Premiership Play-Offs live on BSN!

OXFORD team boss Peter Schroeck was close to tears and admitted he was “proud” of their Championship Pairs success.&nbsp;
The Cheetahs outgunned Berwick 6-3 in a pulsating final at Wimborne Road on Wednesday night.&nbsp;
Sam Masters won the race and Anders Rowe supplied the vital third place after being passed by Peter Kildemand.
It was an emotional victory for Schroeck after a tough season for the club on and off the track.&nbsp;
Fighting back the tears, he said: “I’m very proud. It’s been well stated that we’ve had a tough season.&nbsp;
“This is for everybody who believed in us. It’s a small token for what we’ve been through. We’ve got to come back stronger as a team next year.”&nbsp;
Masters was typically immaculate all night, scoring 14 points in the qualifying races before two blistering starts and ultra-smooth wins in the semi and final.&nbsp;
He added: “We didn’t feel any pressure coming into it. Obviously Poole were the favourites being on their own track and those two boys are going awesome.&nbsp;
“This is for Oxford speedway. We’ve had a tough run this year on and off the track. This is for the fans.
“It’s just nice finally to get a gold and give them something. Thank you very much for the support.”
Rowe was also excellent with 12 points in the qualifiers before the vital thirds to deliver the victory.&nbsp;
He said: “I’ve been here twice with Oxford this year and really struggled. We came here today with not a lot of pressure on us. Just went out and had some fun and raced our bikes and got the job done.”
The meeting came alive in the semis. Oxford got past Glasgow 6-3 with Rowe holding on to split Chris Harris and Leon Flint.&nbsp;
The best race of the night was the second semi. Zach Cook went clear but Morris got past Richard Lawson and then slowed down the Poole No.1 to enable his team mate Peter Kildemand to get by. The last two laps were a particularly hectic scrap to see the favourites Poole take a shock exit.&nbsp;
Josh Pickering was the top scorer on the night with 15 for Scunthorpe while Charles Wright was his usual swashbuckling self and the most entertaining.&nbsp;

Oxford boss Schroeck "proud" after Pairs glory

IT’S going to be a September to remember!
As we swing into autumn, yes we’ll say it, it’s the business end of the season.&nbsp;
But for BSN it’s the busy end of the season.&nbsp;
It all kicks off with live coverage Sheffield’s huge home clash with Northampton on September 10. The Tigers will be hoping to confirm their place in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership play-offs by then. The action starts at 7pm.
Then just 48 hours later, it’s back to South Yorkshire for the Championship League Riders’ Championship at Sheffield on Saturday September 12 (6.30pm).
All nine Championship clubs are represented, with Glasgow’s Chris Harris defending the title he won at Scunthorpe last season.
Current Scorpions skipper Josh Pickering, who won in 2024 at Redcar, will start as favourite with the meeting taking place on his home Premiership track, whilst in-form Leon Flint will also be on home territory. There are two other former champions, Charles Wright and Sam Masters, in the line-up.
But then comes a really exciting conclusion to to the season with BSN covering ALL Cab Direct Championship play-offs between Poole and Edinburgh plus Glasgow’s clash with Scunthorpe.&nbsp;
There’s also the BSN Series final with Poole v either Redcar or Berwick (both legs), the MAXiCab KO Cup Final between Berwick and Plymouth (September 26 and October 10) and finally the Cab Direct Championship Grand Final, both legs.

Every race  of epic Championship season finale live on BSN!

AUSTRALIA captain Brady Kurtz admitted it was an “incredible” feeling as they lifted the World Cup for the first time in 24 years.&nbsp;
The World No.2 led his side brilliant as they finished on 38 to take gold ahead of Denmark on 30, Poland 29 and Great Britain 29 at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw.&nbsp;
But it was an all-round solid performance from Mark Lemon’s men with Ryan Douglas outstanding with 10, Jason Doyle 10 and Max Fricke on seven.&nbsp;
They were in control of the title after opening the meeting with four successive wins. Poland and Denmark came back at them towards the end.&nbsp;
But a vital win from Fricke in Heat 18 followed by second for Kurtz in the following race wrapped it up.&nbsp;
Kurtz clinched the crown for his country just a year after they won the Speedway of Nations title, also in Poland.&nbsp;
He said: “It’s been incredible. It’s always been my dream since I was five-years-old to be in the World Cup.
“To get the win being the captain is something really special that I’m always going to be remember.”
Max Fricke: “This is unbelievable. We’ve been trying so hard for such a long time. The boys were just phenomenal tonight. It was amazing with a great team atmosphere.
Jason Doyle: “Oh my God 12 years myself and Mark Lemon have been in this team and trying to win the World Cup.
“It’s finally happened. What a great team. Everyone is deserving of what they’ve done tonight. We can’t be more happy.”
Douglas said: “It was just amazing to be involved. To go out there and contribute like I did. It’s an amazing feeling, I’ll never forget it.”
Lemon said: “We were without Jack Holder and we chose these five and they didn’t let us down or their country down.
“Thanks to everyone in Australia for the hard yards, have a few cold ones for us!”
Mikkel Michelsen was excellent for the Danes with 12 while Bartosz Zmarzlik top scored for Poland with 11, but surprisingly only won one race.&nbsp;
Robert Lambert carried GB’s hopes as top scorer on the night with 14. Charles Wright, Adam Ellis and Leon Flint all battled hard and were always in the mix.&nbsp;

Kurtz "incredible" feeling as Australia win World Cup

JUSTIN SEDGMEN admits Edinburgh have got their sights on a crucial final double flourish.
The Monarchs’ Aussie star says they want to finish their Cab Direct Championship campaign in style, starting with a win at Scunthorpe on Friday night, live on BSN.
Sedgy, 34, believes that his side can take a victory at the Eddie Wright Raceway and then also get a result at Berwick 24 hours later.&nbsp;
He said: “We obviously still want to win our remaining two fixtures at Scunthorpe and Berwick and we are definitely capable of doing that.
“It’s been a funny season, it’s been a bit hit and miss and a lot of days off doing nothing.&nbsp;
“There have been two things that have caught me out this year. The lack of riding but also because of the hot summer, the tracks have been different to work out.&nbsp;
“The start of year was going well and I was getting better and then the British Grand Prix came along and everything stopped with a lack of fixtures.”
The Monarchs go into the clash with a full strength side while Scunthorpe draft in Jordan Jenkins for broken collarbone victim Jacob Hook.
Sedgmen added: “We’ve got a good side. Dan Thompson has had a tough time with his injury and Kye Thomson has been excellent.&nbsp;
“We’ll go to Scunthorpe to try and get a result we need. The track is a great leveller.&nbsp;
“Josh Pickering has had a really great year for them. I think he’s carried the team a lot but they are in the top four for a reason and it’s a tough place to go.”&nbsp;

Sedgmen aims for double flourish

MICHAEL PALM TOFT admits that Scunthorpe were probably written off as they stand on the verge of reaching the play-offs.&nbsp;
The Scorpions take on Edinburgh in a crucial Cab Direct Championship clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday night, live on BSN.
Tofty, 36, hopes that his side can secure their place in the top four with a win over the Monarchs before one more last regulation fixture at Glasgow the following week.&nbsp;
He said: “I think one more win gets us over the line. Then it’s all about where we finish in the top four.&nbsp;
“I don’t care who we meet in the semi-finals. They are all there to be beaten, I’m not bothered personally.&nbsp;
“I think a lot of people wrote us off at the start of the season. But we’ve done pretty good.
“Josh (Pickering) has been really good all season. I’ve had a few blips here and there. I’ve picked up some weird problems along the way.&nbsp;
“I’ve been figuring things out and now they should be ironed out by now. Hopefully we are all systems go.”
MPT certainly doesn’t underestimate the threat of the Monarchs who have already qualified for the play-offs.&nbsp;
He added: “It’s been really hard picking up those away wins. The early win at Redcar was really important.&nbsp;
“The clubs who haven’t made it are the teams that haven’t won their home meetings.&nbsp;
“We’ve just got to make sure we beat Edinburgh and get the job done.&nbsp;
“You don’t even want to draw at home, we dropped our only point to Poole. The way it has been this year for all the teams, it’s been so close.&nbsp;
“It doesn’t matter who you are up against, you can’t underestimate anyone. That’s the worst thing you can do. Every race and every meeting is tough.”

Palm Toft admits Scorpions were written off

GREAT BRITAIN boss Olly Allen admits his side are “underdogs” after losing two top stars for the World Cup final.
The national side take on hosts Poland, Denmark and Australian at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw on Saturday night.&nbsp;
But GB have been dealt a big blow after Dan Bewley was forced to pull out this week after not recovering in time from a broken femur and back injuries.&nbsp;
It comes just six weeks after three-times World Champion Tai Woffinden announced his retirement from the sport.&nbsp;
Allen has shuffled his pack with the new team which includes Robert Lambert, Adam Ellis, Charles Wright, Tom Brennan and Leon Flint.&nbsp;
He admitted: “We will be the underdogs, there’s no doubt about that. But all our lads know this is their opportunity to deliver something special for their country.
“Obviously coming into this season we had high hopes of going one better than we did in the World in 2023 when we came within two laps of the gold medal.&nbsp;
“But our side has been robbed of two top stars in the sport and that’s really tough to take.
“It’s going to be a huge task for our boys on Saturday night. It’s quite an inexperienced team at that level.
“But nonetheless, they are all determined to go there and go for the gold.”&nbsp;
Lambert has been in outstanding form and the top three at the recent Cab Direct British Championship final are in the team.
Lambo added: “Having the World Cup final in the Warsaw stadium is going to be something special. To be part of that is going to be even better.&nbsp;
“The Narodowy gives us the same vibe as Cardiff as it’s going to be a full stadium which I’m told it will be.&nbsp;
“The Poles are very passionate about the sport. They are going to lift the roof for sure.&nbsp;
“From a team point of view, we need to go there open-minded and not put too much pressure on ourselves. We just need to plug away at the races and see what we can do.&nbsp;
“If I can do a good job as well and score plenty of points and the rest of the boys chip in, I think a medal is in our reach. We’ll see what colour that will be at the end.&nbsp;
“Obviously the goal is not to finish off the podium. That will give us something to fight for.”

Great Britain "underdogs" after Bewley blow

TATE ZISCHKE is hoping to end the season on a high and help Workington climb off the bottom of the Cab Direct Championship table.&nbsp;
The Comets go to Plymouth this evening seeking a vital victory in Devon, live on BSN.
A win for Workington at The Coliseum or at home to Redcar next weekend would condemn Oxford to the wooden spoon.&nbsp;
Zischke, 21, has had another classy campaign for the Cumbrians and wants a strong finish for both his clubs.&nbsp;
He said: “I had to take the nine days off for the concussion injury. It was a bit boring not doing much just resting.&nbsp;
“I don’t remember the crash at all. They are the hard ones when you are in front and you don’t know it’s coming and then you hit your head.&nbsp;
“I’ve had a fair few bad head knocks now in my career. But I’ll forget about that now and kick on.&nbsp;
“My first meeting back was at Oxford and I felt really good on the bike straight away in my first heat.&nbsp;
“Everything was working so it was good to carry that on at Northampton for Belle Vue.&nbsp;
“Hopefully we can just keep that going. I’ve got two meetings left with the Comets and hopefully we can finish with two wins. Then it’s Belle Vue with Sheffield and the play-offs.&nbsp;
“I just want to finish the season on a high and that starts with Workington.”
Plymouth host two meetings in four days with the Comets and then Glasgow on Tuesday night.&nbsp;
The Gladiators will be looking to complete the double over the Comets after a 45-43 win in Cumbria in early May.&nbsp;
Plymouth operate rider replacement for injured No.1 Scott Nicholls whilst Workington name a full-strength line-up for their second match in 24 hours following Friday’s defeat at Scunthorpe.

TATE AIMS FOR GREAT FINALE

BEN BARKER says his Plymouth side are focused on bringing back a trophy to Devon.&nbsp;
The never-say-die local star insists the Gladiators need a strong win over Workington in the Cab Direct Championship this Saturday, live on BSN.
Every meeting now for the club is a vital warm-up for when they eventually face Berwick in the MAXiCab KO Cup final, with dates still to be finalised.&nbsp;
Their last home clash saw a strong win over Poole at The Coliseum, so they are becoming tough to beat.&nbsp;
Barker said: “The plan is to get a trophy in the KO Cup final. The play-offs aren’t out of the window but we’ve got a lot to do to achieve a top four place.
“Our main concentration is on the KO Cup and that includes using our home meetings to be in the best possible shape for whenever the final is.
“That starts with Workington on Saturday. We know that we have to be good at home and a strong win over the Comets is absolutely vital.
“I don’t think it takes a genius to work out that if Tobias Thomsen had stayed fit that we had a recipe for a very good team.
“Scott, Danny and myself have all had knocks as well. This is speedway and these things happen. Ultimately you have to deal with those situations as best you can.&nbsp;
“At this point we want our home form to be good. We want to take a 10 or 12-point lead to Berwick. We rode there really well when we went there in the league. We won on aggregate then, so hopefully we can repeat that.&nbsp;
“We really want to bring a trophy back to Plymouth. It’s been too long and this club deserves it for the effort put in by people behind the scenes. It’s been fantastic promotion so it would be great to have some silverware for all the hard work.”

BARKER FOCUS ON TROPHY

LIVE Speedway is to make a sensational return to free-to-air television – with this Saturday’s Cab Direct British Final at Belle Vue to be screened by ITV4 and ITVX.
British Speedway is delighted to have concluded arrangements with ITV plc for the live broadcast of the showpiece major event at the National Speedway Stadium, Manchester on August 15 (7pm).
And in a further boost, long time Championship backers Cab Direct have agreed a deal to become title sponsors of the prestige meeting which will feature Grand Prix star Robert Lambert defending the title.
Lambert, who is currently in contention for the World title, clinched his second British crown last year at the same venue in a deciding race widely regarded as one of the best in the history of the sport.
He overcame former champions Charles Wright, Dan Bewley and Chris Harris in a remarkable four way, four lap battle which went right down to the wire.
Seven riders who have previously won the title figure in the draw, as well as some of the sport’s top rising talent including 16-year-old Cooper Rushen and 17-year-old home favourite Will Cairns.
The return to ITV platforms will evoke memories of televised speedway coverage on the World of Sport programme which ran until the mid-1980s.
Back then, top events such as the World Final, British Final and international Test Matches were regularly featured, bringing the sport to the widest possible audience and making household names out of many of the riders.
Nowadays, ITV4 is the main linear television outlet for ITV Sport, with motorsport playing a key role in its output.
It has become the established home of the British Touring Car Championship, along with being free-to-air broadcast partner of the FIA Formula E series, and outside of motorsport there is a regular Saturday night EFL highlights programme featuring action from all three Football League divisions.
ITVX is the streaming service operated by ITV plc, containing exclusive content in addition to that which is broadcast free-to-air.
Securing the backing of the UK’s leading taxi supplier, Cab Direct, is yet more positive news for the event as the company continue to extend their support for British Speedway. 
Cab Direct have been title sponsors of the Championship league since 2023, subsequently adding the KO Cup competition under the MAXiCab brand, and they will now put their name to one of the sport’s major events for the first time.

“We plan to make the event a real spectacle, and that will be the case for everyone attending on the night as well as those watching on ITV.
“We know we can expect a night of top-class racing with so much at stake for the riders on a superb circuit which always produces thrilling action.
“Even by Belle Vue’s standards the Final last year was extraordinary, but we hope this year’s event will be just as memorable, and to have it on free-to-air television with ITV is fantastic news for the sport.”
Live coverage from Belle Vue on Saturday August 15 will get underway at 7pm with the meeting parade, with the opening race at 7.15pm.

ITV TO SCREEN CAB DIRECT BRITISH FINAL

EDINBURGH suffered a defeat at Poole - despite a heroic performance from reserve Mitchell Cluff.&nbsp;
The Monarchs lost out by 52-38 to their Cab Direct Championship rivals in Dorset on Wednesday night.&nbsp;
Young Aussie Cluff produced a wonderful 14 points from seven rides but it wasn’t enough to stop the home side going top of the table.
Monarchs captain Paco Castagna said: “It was always going to be tough at Poole. They are formidable at their place.&nbsp;
“But we stayed as close as possible and Mitch put in a great display to keep us in it.&nbsp;
“We had some bad luck with crashes as well with a couple of the guys getting hurt, so it’s been a hard night.&nbsp;
“We just have to regroup now for a big match at home to Glasgow on Friday night at Armadale.”
It was close early on but the defending champions Pirates pulled clear comfortably after four races.&nbsp;
Monarchs now have concerns over No.5 Kye Thomson after a big crash in Heat 13 and he misses Northampton's clash tonight. Jordy Loftus will miss Friday night's encounter with concussion.

MONARCHS SUFFER DOUBLE BLOW

ROBERT LAMBERT powered himself into the World Championship title race by winning the Lodz Grand Prix.
The Great Britain captain won an epic final ahead of Patryk Dudek and Brady Kurtz.
It pushed him up the standings to 101 points, eight points behind leader Kurtz and defending World Champion Bartosz Zmarzlik with three rounds to go.&nbsp;
The victory for Lambert comes just a fortnight after announcing he is expecting a first child with Polish wife Julia.&nbsp;
He said: “There was a bit of carnage in the first corner. After the first lap being in front was something good.&nbsp;
“But also the race is not done with Brady who loves to race the fence and Partryk on the inside. I didn’t know what to do, which line to run.”
On being in the title race, he added: “The goal will stay the same as the beginning of the season, top seven.&nbsp;
“Obviously that’s adapted a little bit. I’ll now push for a medal and we’ll see what colour it is.”

LAMBERT ROARS INTO TITLE RACE

BERWICK captain Jye Etheridge admitted it was a “hard one to take” with the narrow defeat at Workington.&nbsp;
The Bandits let it slip in the latter stages to go down by 48-42 in the Cab Direct Championship in Cumbria on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;
The clash was delayed for an hour after a nasty crash between Nick Morris and Tate Zischke, which saw the latter taken to hospital.
Along with the narrow away loss at Redcar on Friday night, the latest defeat leaves Berwick’s play-off hopes hanging by a thread.&nbsp;
Etheridge, who scored an outstanding 15 points at Workington, said: “We were in front and then so close for the whole meeting, so losing is a hard one to take.&nbsp;
“It was a similar situation at Redcar on Friday we were in the lead and lost out. It’s frustrating for us.&nbsp;
“We will keep pushing on and fight until the end but it’s tough to lose out when you’ve been in front.”
Team boss Stewart Dickson was equally as gutted with the defeat.
He added: “We could have easily won at Redcar, at home to Workington and then won here at Workington.&nbsp;
“But instead we’ve only picked up three points. We’ve got four meetings to go and we are four points off fourth in the table.&nbsp;
“It’s a big ask now and we’ll probably need to win our remaining four fixtures to stand a chance. That’s still possible but we now have to be perfect.”
That bid for four wins on the bounce starts with the visit of defending champions Poole to Shielfield Park on Saturday night.
There is sure to be an extra edge in this tie after the Bandits eliminated Poole from the KO Cup earlier in the campaign.&nbsp;
Dickson added: “Our home form has been excellent. That will be given its sternest test on Saturday night. Poole will want revenge and they are a very good side.&nbsp;
“They were depleted the last time here and it will be a very different attitude from them.
“It’s a tough run-in for us with Edinburgh home and away and Redcar at Shielfield. They are all winnable. But we’ll have to be at our best, that’s for sure.”

"HARD ONE TO TAKE" FOR BANDITS

GLASGOW’S Chris Harris made it 13 races unbeaten at Ashfield after his wife told him to “stop riding like a clown”.
The three-times British Champion has been in swashbuckling form after, by his standards, a patchy start to the season.&nbsp;
Harris, 43, delivered a second successive paid 15 maximum to help the Allied Vehicles Tigers salvage a 45-45 draw with Edinburgh last Friday.&nbsp;
He admitted: “We definitely got out of jail. To come away with a draw, we’ll take that having been six down with two races to go.&nbsp;
“We knew it was going to be tough against Edinburgh. We made hard work of it.&nbsp;
“You’ve got to have your No.1 hitting double figures. In our last two meetings with Edinburgh, Kyle Howarth has been missing.&nbsp;
“It’s so hard to replace him. The guests we had we thought they would be good but they’ve struggled for some reason. Guests are always a gamble.&nbsp;
“People might say we should have gone rider replacement but you don’t know if that would pay off either. It’s just sport, one of those things.&nbsp;
“I don’t know why the scoring has improved, I’ve not really changed anything.&nbsp;
“I think maybe my approach and attitude, I’ve altered that a bit after a good talking to from my wife. She told me to pull my finger out of my backside. She told me to stop riding like a clown!
“Emma wanted me to be like the old Bomber, so that’s all that I’ve done really.&nbsp;
“We have three big meetings ahead at Edinburgh and then Redcar and Poole at home this month. We are going to have to make sure we are on song for all three. The home meetings are must-wins.&nbsp;
“Redcar and Poole have got good riders who can come to Ashfield and score big. All seven of us will have to perform to get the results we need to stay in the top four.&nbsp;
“At Edinburgh on Friday I need to find my gating gloves, that will be tough as it always is.”
It was a last-gasp point secured against the Monarchs having been six down with two races to go and struggling without Kyle Howarth, who announced just three days earlier he was taking a break from the sport.&nbsp;
The Tigers suffered once again with a shockingly poor guest appearance from Jonas Jeppesen.
Now team boss Cami Brown admits the race is on to replace Howarth.&nbsp;
He said: “It’s been an incredibly tough task to bring someone in of Kyle’s calibre. We have to do that before completing 75 per cent of our fixtures, which is this week.&nbsp;
“Most riders now are fully committed to clubs in either the UK, Poland, Sweden or Denmark. There are simply no No.1 or No.5 riders available.&nbsp;
“We have to sort it as soon as possible. We’ve had a disastrous run with guests this season, unfortunately Jeppesen was woeful on Friday night and that cost us big time.&nbsp;
“Kyle is a very honest rider and he’s been totally up front to admit he’s not enjoying speedway right now and that he wants to take a break from the sport.&nbsp;
“He’s had a bad run of knocks and illness this season and plus the fact he’s due to be a dad again any day. He has a lot going on which is difficult if you’re not 100 per cent fit to compete.&nbsp;
“Kyle has been a brilliant servant for us and always gave us 100 per cent so we acknowledge his honesty if he can’t give us his best. We accept his reasons and he leaves with our best wishes.”
