Palm Toft admits Scorpions were written off

MICHAEL PALM TOFT admits that Scunthorpe were probably written off as they stand on the verge of reaching the play-offs. 

The Scorpions take on Edinburgh in a crucial Cab Direct Championship clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday night, live on BSN.

Tofty, 36, hopes that his side can secure their place in the top four with a win over the Monarchs before one more last regulation fixture at Glasgow the following week. 

He said: “I think one more win gets us over the line. Then it’s all about where we finish in the top four. 

“I don’t care who we meet in the semi-finals. They are all there to be beaten, I’m not bothered personally. 

“I think a lot of people wrote us off at the start of the season. But we’ve done pretty good.

“Josh (Pickering) has been really good all season. I’ve had a few blips here and there. I’ve picked up some weird problems along the way. 

“I’ve been figuring things out and now they should be ironed out by now. Hopefully we are all systems go.”

MPT certainly doesn’t underestimate the threat of the Monarchs who have already qualified for the play-offs. 

He added: “It’s been really hard picking up those away wins. The early win at Redcar was really important. 

“The clubs who haven’t made it are the teams that haven’t won their home meetings. 

“We’ve just got to make sure we beat Edinburgh and get the job done. 

“You don’t even want to draw at home, we dropped our only point to Poole. The way it has been this year for all the teams, it’s been so close. 

“It doesn’t matter who you are up against, you can’t underestimate anyone. That’s the worst thing you can do. Every race and every meeting is tough.”
